Meghalaya to reopen tourism from Sep 1

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday announced reopening of the state's tourism sector from September 1 with relaxations of COVID protocols for travellers. Tourists, who have been fully inoculated, will be allowed to visit Meghalaya, while negative COVID test reports, conducted 72 hours before arrival in the state, will be mandatory for those who received the first dose of vaccines, he said. One will be through the lush green forests and tea gardens of Dooars in north Bengal and another one to scenic destination of Haflong in Assam. Both trains will be run by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Nests of endangered baya weaver birds spotted in Ganjam

Bird watchers are delighted as they have spotted several newly-sprung, intricately-woven nests of the baya weaver in different trees near the mouth of the Rushikulya river in Odisha's Ganjam district. The helmet-shaped nests have been seen hanging from trees, including a palm tree. The nests are the indefatigable effort of the baya weavers, an endangered bird species, to protect the family from predators. "We have found over 100 such nests in a single palm tree at a farm field in Subalaya," said Rabindra Nath Sahu, the honorary wildlife warden for Ganjam. The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has called upon the U.S. government to urgently speed up approval of the UK’s AstraZeneca vaccine to help restore vital transatlantic travel. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC), the main health authority in the U.S., this week approved the Pfizer vaccine, however it still does not currently recognise AstraZeneca as an approved COVID-19 vaccine. Oman will allow anyone holding a COVID-19 vaccine certificate to travel to the country from Sept. 1, the civil aviation authority said on Twitter on Monday. The authority said it had dropped a list of countries from which arrivals were banned due to the pandemic. With Oman lifting the travel ban on all countries, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, thousands of expatriates stuck in various parts of the world can now enter Oman.
