Jain temple unearthed in Hassan district

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has unearthed an ancient temple of Hoysala era in in Hassan district recently, an ASI official said on Wednesday. Presumably a Jain temple, the ancient structure with a grand platform carrying intricate carvings unique to the Hoysala era, was found at Shantinatha Basadi near Halebidu in Belur taluk, the officer added. Kaziranga records 175 percent rise in number of waterfowls

Altogether 93,491 birds of 112 species were recorded during the two-day annual waterfowl census in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Amit Sahai, said on Tuesday. The total number of birds has increased from 34,284 in 2020 to 93,491 in 2021, implying a rise of 175 per cent, Sahai said. This rise in the number of birds visiting Kaziranga can be attributed to improved habitat management and water conservation measures carried out by the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve authority. South India recorded highest minimum temperature in 121 years in the month The minimum temperature recorded in the country in January was the warmest for the month in 62 years, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday. South India was particularly warm. The month was the warmest in 121 years, with 22.33 degrees Celsius in south India, followed by 22.14 degrees Celsius in 1919 and 21.93 degrees Celsius in 2020 as the second and third warmest months. Central India was the warmest (14.82 degrees Celsius) in the last 38 years after 1982 (14.92 degrees Celsius), while 1958 with 15.06 degrees Celsius was the warmest in the 1901-2021 period. Doda to host Chenab water rafting festival

Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district will be organising a water rafting festival on Chenab river later this month to promote adventure tourism, officials have said. In this regard, a trial was organised in coordination with JK Adventures' rafting group, an official spokesman said. He said Doda District Development Commissioner Sagar D Doifode and several other adventure enthusiasts participated in the rafting trial by following all the safety protocols. The trial started from Premnagar and ended at Karara, he said, adding that the trial participants termed it as one of the safe and secure routes for rafting.
