Land transfer for Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway approved

The Union Cabinet has approved transfer of 1500 square metres of land belonging to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at Mussoorie to the State Government of Uttarakhand for their infrastructure project, namely, 'Aerial Passenger Ropeway System' between Dehradun and Mussoorie. The proposed Ropeway is a mono-cable ropeway of 5580 meters length under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode between Purkul Gaon, Dehradun (Lower Terminal Station) and Library, Mussoorie (Upper Terminal Station) being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.285 crore with a carrying capacity of 1000 persons per hour per direction. Like most hill townships, Mussoorie, the popular hill station in Uttarakhand, has witnessed several landslides, probably resulting from an increased spate of developmental activities. The increased disaster hazard has led scientists to map the landslide susceptibility of Mussoorie and surrounding areas, showing that 15 percent of the region is highly susceptible to landslides. Landslide is a normal geomorphic process that becomes hazardous when interfering with any development activity. War memorial ‘Pancham Dham’ to be built in Dehradun

A grand war memorial named 'Pancham Dham' will be built in Dehradun to honour martyrs from Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Saturday. "A piece of land has already been identified in the city for the purpose. We have not been able to lay its foundation stone due to coronavirus pandemic but it'll be done soon." "The grand war memorial named 'Pancham Dham' will be built in the memory of our martyrs," Rawat told reporters.
