Indonesia says ‘Jurassic Park’ project no threat to Komodo dragon

Indonesia’s environment ministry on Tuesday sought to calm outrage over construction of an island tourism project being dubbed “Jurassic Park”, after an image went viral on social media of a Komodo dragon facing off with a big truck. The picture of the dragon, one of the world’s largest lizards, blocking the path of a big vehicle on Indonesia’s Rinca Island prompted an outpouring of anger about perceived threats to the natural habitat of the vulnerable species. Reuters was not able to verify the authenticity of the picture. It was shared by Save Komodo Now, a collective of activists, who wrote: "This is the first time Komodos are hearing the roar of engines and the smell of smoke. What will the future impact of these projects be? Does anyone still care about conservation?" ...

The Republic of Indonesia has become the first signatory of the Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics, the landmark instrument created to ensure global tourism is fair, inclusive, more transparent, and works for everyone. The ceremony, hosted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Madrid, is a significant step towards the ratification of the Convention, which was adopted during the 23rd meeting of the UNWTO General Assembly in September 2019. This is the Ratu crater of active volcano at Tangkuban Parahu near Bandung in West Java province of Indonesia. This volcano had last eruption just a year before in July 2019. Tangkuban Parahu is a natural Park located at the altitude of 2084 metres. There are three main craters here- Ratu, Upas and Domas. Ratu is the main crater, visited most and has the most developed infrastructure around. There are a couple of adjacent craters. There also some hot springs in the natural park. Few of them have so much hot water that people cook meal on them. (We do so in our hot springs, in Manikarn near Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.) Bali’s much-touted plan to reopen to the world on September 11 is most likely to be shelved. Indonesia is reviewing a plan to reopen its tourist areas to foreign visitors, which could stall Bali’s planned to welcome back foreigners next month. बाली आर्ट सेंटर के खुले थियेटर- कलांगन में मंच पर पीछे की तरफ बनी सीढिय़ों पर एक बेहद खूबसूरत युगल खालिस बाली की वेशभूषा में था। फोटोग्राफरों का एक पूरा दल अलग-अलग पोज में उनकी फोटो उतार रहा था। साथ में उनके मेकअप के लिए भी एक पूरी टीम थी। हमें अहसास हुआ कि शायद कोई शूटिंग हो रही है। हम भी अपने कैमरे लेकर वहां लपक लिए। बात हुई तो पता चला कि यह किसी परदे के लिए कोई शूटिंग नहीं थी, बल्कि वह युगल जल्दी ही विवाह के बंधन में बंधने वाला था। बाली में विवाह से पहले लड़के व लड़की का बाहर किसी खूबसूरत जगह पर जाकर इस तरह के फोटो खिंचाना, परंपरा का हिस्सा है। ये तस्वीरें न केवल एलबम का हिस्सा बनती हैं बल्कि विवाह के आमंत्रण पर छपती हैं, विवाह स्थल पर भी कई जगह लगाई जाती हैं। हमारे लिए यह नई जानकारी थी। हमने विवाह के तत्काल बाद एक बंद कमरे में फोटोग्राफर द्वारा दूल्हा-दुल्हन को लेकर अपनी फोटो कलात्मकत...
