Kathakali is classical dance drama of Kerala and it is one of the eight Indian classical dance forms- second from Kerala in the list besides Mohiniyattam. Kathakali comes under ‘story-play’ genre of art. Art form originated in Kerala over a thousand years ago and it is said o have evolved from other art forms of Kerala like Kutiyattam, Krishnanattam and Kalaripayattu. This beautiful dance also combines facets of ballet, opera, masque and pantomime.
Kathakali is a mix of devotion, drama, dance, music, costumes and make up- all merged up in a divine experience. Kathakali retells the great stories of the past, mostly from Indian epics.
