WTI to launch conservation action report on securing Wayanad Elephant Corridor

As a run-up to World Elephant Day, Wildlife Trust of India will release their Conservation Action Report on securing the Thirunelli – Kudrakote elephant corridor on Tuesday, 11th August 2020. The Thirunelli – Kudrakote Elephant corridor connects the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka with the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala and is vital to the habitat connectivity and survival of about 6500 Asian elephants. This long-term project of WTI commenced with the Kerala Forest Department in 2005 to secure a corridor area that housed five villages covering about 37.3 acres. Qatar Airways has said that from August 13 people travelling from some specific airports in some countries including India will have to present a negative Covid-19 medical test result. The airline has also published a list of approved test centres in these countries. “For the safety of all passengers, effective 13 August, Qatar Airways requires passengers travelling from specific airports in the below countries to present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR medical test result when checking in. In our current network, these countries are Bangladesh, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. New daily coronavirus cases are rising in parts of Asia, putting pressure on its vital tourism industry and complicating efforts to revive its battered economy. Thailand first proposed the idea in June to allow movement between select countries that have low infection numbers, without the need for travellers to undergo quarantine. Passengers flying to Goa must adhere to new quarantine guidelines in the wake of quarantine, said Airports Authority of India on Wednesday. As per the new directives, all arriving passengers shall be required to go for 14 days of home quarantine or they can opt for 14 days of paid institutional quarantine. Institutional quarantine is mandatory for symptomatic passengers till test result is available. However, passengers shall be exempted from home quarantine in below cases: Passenger is able to produce a COVID-19 negative certificate issued by an ICMR-recognized lab, not older than 48 hours prior to the arrival in Goa.Passenger opts for swab test upon arrivals at a cost of ₹2000 and agrees to remain in paid institutional/home quarantine till the time test result is available. ...
