Africa’s rarest bloom, a once-in-two-decades natural event

A transformation is happening right now. Following the 2025 fires, Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is at the centre of a superbloom that occurs only once every 15 to 20 years. Rare orchids, fire lilies and species new to science are emerging from the ash across a reserve where seven previously unknown plant varieties have been discovered since 2001.
