The wild buffalo extant population at Chhattisgarh has been dwindling down to critical levels and to stem this, Wildlife Trust of India has been working since the last 14 years with the Chhattisgarh Forest Department and the Chhattisgarh State Government at various levels to reverse the population decline of this majestic state animal of Chhattisgarh.

To further this cause, Chandradeo Rai, Parliament Secretary (Forest) and Manoj Kumar Pingua, Principal Secretary (Forest) in an event, marking the end of the 66th National Wildlife Week launched “Bovine from the Brink” a wildlife documentary film, on the state animal of Chhattisgarh, the Wild Buffalo, depicting the conservation efforts of the Chhattisgarh Forest Department, Wildlife Trust of India and associated partners on reviving the Wild buffalo populations of Chhattisgarh.

This film highlights the interstate translocation of two wild buffaloes from Manas National Park to the Barnawapara Conservation Breeding Centre at the Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary, a journey of about 1900 km undertaken by the team, amidst Covid-19 lockdown, with the aim of repopulating the wild buffalo stock in the state of Chhattisgarh.

This film also talks about the community initiatives undertaken with the support of Oracle India to bring a sense of ownership among the local community towards  wild buffalo conservation.
