Finnish Lapland has some ideal accommodation options for winter tourism
Many people have heard and read about different kind of accommodation options with large scenic windows, which were planned for experiencing the northern lights close to the arctic circle. Fully movable glass igloo pods take things to a whole new level though.
Glass igloos have become an integral part of winter tourism in Finnish Lapland over the past decade. Seeing the northern lights close to the arctic circle has also found it’s place on top of many travelers’ “To Do” lists and this also means that there is all the time more options available to make these dreams possible.
But is seeing the Auroras in middle of an artificially built glass igloo village, next to roads and settlements, really the best possible way to experience them? Probably no! The northern lights are always at their best in locations where there are no human-built structures or any excessive light pollution.
One option would be to take part in a Northern lights’ safari either with snowmobiles or snowshoes, which have become increasingly popular in Finland. But a more comfortable option could be to stay in a fully movable glass igloo that can be freely taken to middle of nowhere, where there is no light pollution or any marks of people’s handprints.
You can actually take one of these literally in middle of the lake, away from all the light pollution and it could be experience out of this world. Chilling and really just taking all these aurora lights and realizing… if you are not from Finland or from the Nordic countries, the experience just is out of this world.
When staying in a year-round free-moving glass igloo boat, you will experience the natural phenomena of Lapland wherever they are at their best. Only the sky is the limit for your fully movable northern lights hut.
There are 10 fully mobile and floating glass igloo boats on the shores of lake Ranua, ideal for experiencing stunning nature phenomenon such as the Northern lights and mid-summer nightless night in Finnish Lapland.
Ranua is located in Southern Finnish Lapland, “between” Rovaniemi and Oulu. Its location is ideal in many perspectives as Ranua works well as a stop between other destinations in Lapland. On the other the close to the nature town offers you the possibility also for longer stops. The most well known attraction, Ranua Wildlife Park is located only about five minute drive away from there.
Arctic Guesthouse & Igloos is a family-run business in Ranua, which runs its business in facilities of the legendary Gasthaus Ranua that has been at service ever since the 1940s. Interesting details remains of the history of that time. For example, the reinforcement of the foundations of the main building is made of rifle barrels.
There has been a farm and an Esso gas station in the yard. The main building was once home to the SYP Bank and there had been also a shop / kiosk.
Arctic Guesthouse & Igloos’ Inn can accommodate more than 50 people at a time. The guesthouse has a total of 18 rooms, which are ideally suited to different sized travel parties.
There are also a total of 10 AuroraHut igloos and, with the possibility of adding extra mattresses, these will add capacity for a further 20-30 people at a time. In addition, the mobile trolley sauna can accommodate two people at a time.
