German Swiss Music Duo Grandbrothers is performing for the first time in India next week and that too in front of one of India’s most picturesque and historical places, the Red Fort in Delhi, on 8th December, 2022. The concert was announced by the German Embassy in Delhi, in conjunction with the Embassy of Switzerland and Pro Helvetia.
Grandbrothers was formed by Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel; a German and a Swiss musician. Their musical style stands for a unique fusion of classical piano and modern electronic music. Since its foundation in 2011, the Duo has released various albums, composed film music and toured extensively through Europe, where they performed in renowned concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg or The Royal Festival Hall in London.
Grandbrothers will be presenting an eclectic mix of repertoire ranging from piano music to modern electronica. Ahead of their performance, Erol Sarp of Grandbrothers said, “We are very excited to be performing our first shows in Asia. India is one of the oldest civilization and yet, it is young, vibrant and colourful. It is an honour for us to perform at a time when India celebrates its 75th anniversary of independence with our music which we hope will be appreciated by the esteemed audience at the historic Red Fort.”
Grandbrothers is known for not just its unique music style of fusion, but also for merging their music with historical backdrops and unique locations – a fusion of classical and historical elements as well as a witness of a vibrant modernity. One of their most prolific performances was inside the world-famous Cathedral in Cologne. It was for these reasons that the Red Fort was chosen for their first ever performance in India.
The Grandbrothers do not just create marvellous sound landscapes – they also have an accompanying light scenery. The Red Fort with its impressive architecture and massive walls will be an ideal backdrop to this concert. After a lull in physical events owed to Covid-19, this event aspires to cater to a live audience once more.
Sharing his thoughts about the event, German Ambassador to India and Bhutan, Dr. Philipp Ackermann stated “We are glad to celebrate the last weeks of the year with such talented musicians as the Grandbrothers. Their performance in front of the iconic Lahore Gate will surely mark a highlight in the cultural calendar of this year. Our thanks goes to all partners, who helped us to realize this project”.
The concert is part of India’s 75th independence celebrations ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Further partners are Lufthansa (travel partner), Art Konnect (event partner) and boxout.fm (promotion partner). The Event will start from 6pm on with the opening act of German DJ Barnet and Indian-Irish DJ Duo The Fully Automatic Model x Kaleekarma.
Following the event at Red Fort, Grandbrothers will perform as one of the headliner bands at the renowned electronic musical festival “Magnetic Fields” in Alsisar, Rajasthan.
