Taj Mahal reopens for night viewing

After remaining closed for over a year for night viewing, the Taj Mahal will open from August 21 for visitors who want to explore the marble monument under moonlight, officials said on Friday. Night viewing of the monument had closed on March 17, 2020 during the first lockdown due to COVID-19. ASI Superintending Archaeologist (Agra Circle) Vasant Kumar Swarnkar said that night viewing will be allowed on August 21, 23 and 24 as the monument is closed every week on Friday and the lockdown is in effect on Sunday. He said there are three time slots for visitors. From 8:30-9 pm, 9-9:30 pm and from 9:30-10 pm. "In every slot, 50 tourists would be allowed as per guidelines of the Supreme Court," he added. With COVID situation almost going out of hand in the country, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has closed all centrally protected monuments, museums and sites including Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar and Humayun's tomb with immediate effect till May 15. Union culture ministry announced this on Thursday. Dealing a big blow to tourism industry, an order to this effect was issued by the ASI and it was tweeted by Culture Minister Prahlad Patel this evening. "Due to the prevailing COVID situation, it has been decided to close all centrally protected monuments, sites and museums under the ASI with immediate effect and till May 15 or until further orders," the ASI said. Jain temple unearthed in Hassan district

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has unearthed an ancient temple of Hoysala era in in Hassan district recently, an ASI official said on Wednesday. Presumably a Jain temple, the ancient structure with a grand platform carrying intricate carvings unique to the Hoysala era, was found at Shantinatha Basadi near Halebidu in Belur taluk, the officer added. The Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha's Puri district, a major tourist attraction, was on Tuesday re-opened for visitors after remaining closed for more than five months, an official said. Tuesday also marks the first day of Unlockdown 4 or relaxations in activities closed due to COVID-19 pandemic since March this year. This phase of relaxations are valid from September 1-30, 2020. Film shooting at ASI monuments to become easier

Shooting of films at ASI monuments is going to become a bit easier, at least procedurally. Government is planning to decrease the permission time required for shooting. Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent charge) Prahlad Singh Patel in a virtual conversation with FICCI Frames said that there will be no need to wait longer for permission to shoot films in any of the monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Patel said that film makers will get permission of shooting within 3 weeks after applying online on the ASI website. He said that this will not only promote the shooting of films in India but will also increase the popularity of Indian monuments. कोरोना महामारी के कारण सौ दिन तक बंद रहने के बाद देश के सभी एएसआई संरक्षित स्मारक सोमवार, 6 जुलाई से आम लोगों के लिए खोल दिए गए। देशभर में एएसआई के तहत 3,000 से ज्यादा स्मारक हैं जिनमें दिल्ली का लाल किला, कुतुब मीनार, खजुराहो के मंदिर व सांची का स्तूप शामिल है। पहले ताजमहल व फतेहपुर सीकरी को भी आज ही से खुल जाना था लेकिन आगरा में कोविड-19 के 55 नए मामले रविवार को आने के बाद प्रशासन ने फिलहाल इन दोनों को नहीं खोलने का फैसला किया। आगरा में इस समय 71 कंटेनमेंट जोन हैं। एएसआई के संरक्षण में आने वाले 3,691 स्मारक व पुरातत्व स्थान 17 मार्च से बंद हैं। पिछले महीने केंद्रीय संस्कृति मंत्रालय ने 8 जून से 820 उन एएसआई संरक्षित स्मारकों को खोलने की मंजूरी दे दी थी जिनका इस्तेमाल पूजा-इबादत में होता था। लिहाजा, ताजमहल जहां बंद है, उसके एक सिरे पर स्थित फतेहपुरी मसजिद और दूसरे सिरे पर स्थित का...
