MSC cruises welcomes back first guests on MSC Grandiosa

MSC Grandiosa became the first ship from the MSC Cruises’ fleet to welcome guests back and the first ship to implement the Company’s health and safety protocol. The first guests began embarking MSC Cruises’ flagship in the port of Genoa, Italy, arriving at the cruise terminal according to their allocated time slots and followed the new universal screening procedures according to the Company’s own health and safety protocol, which includes a temperature check, medical review of a health questionnaire and an antigen COVID-19 swab test for every guest prior to boarding. Things aren’t going right for the cruise industry at all. With world’s biggest cruise line Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd announcing a more than expected loss in the quarter 2, two other cruise companies Seabourn and Holland America Line have cancelled their upcoming operations for more than three months. These news are certainly not going to cheer up the travel industry looking for some silver lining in these gloomy times. Carnival Cruise Line announces updates to its fleet plan

Almost two weeks after announcing reduction of 13 ships in its fleet, World’s biggest cruise company Carnival has, in an attempt to soothe the nerves, announced new plans for its fleet. It expects this to generate tremendous guest excitement once it resumes sailing. Cruise line now has a confirmed date for an additional Excel-class, LNG-powered ship arriving in November 2022. Announcement also includes information on four ships either sold or put on long term lay-up status, and other ships redeployed to new homeports. Carnival seeks to leverage its strong network of year-round and seasonal homeports in the US with upgraded offerings. One of the few sectors of the travel industry which were particularly hit hard by the COVID-19 and have extremely limited hopes of revival in foreseeable future is the Cruise sector. Actually, the whole chaos of the pandemic started in a very bad omen for cruise sector when Carnival’s Diamond Princess Cruise ship becoming the earliest hotspots for the disease outside China. Therefore, it was indeed very brave of Carnival Corporation, when it announced on Friday that it was planning to resume operations. But this would be in phased manner.
