Australia’s national airline Qantas has on Wednesday launched a new route from Bengaluru (BLR) to Sydney (SYD), providing the first direct connection between Southern India and Australia by any airline. QF68 will cut nearly three hours off the current fastest travel time between the two cities and significantly boost connectivity between India and New South Wales. Since the announcement of the new service earlier this year, the route has seen strong demand, with both the outbound and inbound inaugural flights sold out in all cabins. The new services will provide new tourism opportunities for Bengaluru and India, with a direct gateway for Australian tourists to experience all that India has to offer. For people living in Bengaluru and southern India, it’s a convenient non-stop...

New long haul flights could result in less layover and stopover traffic in UAE The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) aviation sector will likely find Qantas’ continuing announcements of direct long-haul routes concerning as they eliminate the need for layovers and stopovers, says GlobalData. According to the leading data and analytics company, full-service passenger airline revenue in the UAE is forecast to reach 95% of pre-pandemic (2019) levels in 2022. A significant reason for this strong recovery timeline is Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s status as major multi-stop hubs for global airline traffic. Ralph Hollister, Travel and Tourism Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Abu Dhabi and Dubai are major layover and stopover destinations for flights between Europe and Australia. This type of traffic ha...
Read MoreAustralian flag carrier Qantas’ plans for a ‘wellbeing zone’ onboard its aircraft, which will give passengers a physical place to meditate, stretch and relax on long-haul flights, could be a gamechanger for full-service carriers looking to differentiate themselves from Low-Cost Carriers (LCCs) operating similar long-haul routes, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company. GlobalData’s Q1 2021 Global Consumer Survey revealed that 57% of respondents said that a product or service that impacts their health and wellbeing either ‘always’ or ‘often’ influences their purchase, highlighting strong demand for health and wellness offerings. Qantas plans to take passenger comfort to a whole new level by offering dedicated wellbeing zones to travellers on the ultra-long-h...

A testing and quarantine free travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand launched with lopsided demand, according to airlines and data firms, with an unusually high number of the travellers departing from Australia. The initial results from Asia’s first restriction-free travel bubble since the pandemic hit, which opened on Monday, showed that travel patterns can depart from their norms after such a long closure and may take time to return to normal.
