Skiing down a towering 6,178m peak in Karakoram

K2 conqueror Andrzej Bargiel has become the first person to climb the towering 6,178m Yawash Sar II peak in Pakistan before skiing down. The ski mountaineer summited K2 in 2018 without oxygen and skied from peak to base without removing his skis – a seemingly impossible challenge which had never been completed before. In 2018, a Polish expedition also set out for Yawash Sar II to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Polish independence by reaching the summit but plans were thwarted by avalanche conditions. जो लोग बर्फीले इलाकों में नहीं रहते उनके लिए रुई के फाहों सी गिरती बर्फ में बड़ा रूमानी आकर्षण होता है। उत्तर सिक्किम में लाचुंग ऐसी ही जगह है, जहां जब बर्फ गिरती है तो उसका नजारा मंत्रमुग्ध करने वाला होता है। सिक्किम की खूबसूरती के चर्चे तो आम हैं। लेकिन यहां हम जिक्र कर रहे हैं उस जगह का जिसे सिक्किम के सबसे खूबसूरत गांव के रूप में ख्याति हासिल है। इस गांव का नाम है लाचुंग। इसे यह दर्जा दिया था ब्रिटिश घुमक्कड़ जोसेफ डॉल्टन हुकर ने 1855 में प्रकाशित हुए द हिमालयन जर्नल में। लेकिन जोसेफ डाल्टन के उस तमगे के बिना भी यह गांव दिलकश है। यह उत्तर सिक्किम में चीन की सीमा के बहुत नजदीक है। है। लाचुंग 9600 फुट की ऊंचाई पर लाचेन व लाचुंग नदियों के संगम पर स्थित है। ये नदियां ही आगे जाकर तीस्ता नदी में मिल जाती हैं। इतनी ऊंचाई पर ठंड तो बारहमासी होती है। लेकिन बर्फ गिरी हो तो यहां की खूबसूरती क...

French ski lifts will not reopen on February 1 and it is not clear for now whether French people can start booking winter holidays in February, French Tourism Minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne said on Thursday. French ski resorts can welcome tourists but the lifts have not been allowed to open since the start of the season. With no mechanical means to lift them up the slopes, skiers and snowboarders have resort to trudging up the slopes with snow shoes. Germany wants Alpine countries to keep ski resorts closed to help fight the coronavirus pandemic, but reaching an agreement with neighbouring Austria is proving difficult, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday. “The ski season is approaching. We will be trying to coordinate in Europe whether we could close all ski resorts,” Merkel told parliament, adding that this might not be possible given resistance from Austria, but Germany would try again. In the first wave of the coronavirus at the start of the year, many Germans were infected at the Austrian ski resort of Ischgl.
