Northeast region to have tourist circuit trains

Tourist circuit trains will be introduced in the northeast, covering all prominent locations of the region, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said. According to a release issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Vaishnaw, who visited Guwahati on Tuesday, also said that a study to increase rail connectivity in the northeastern states was underway. Promoting the rich heritage of northeast and showcasing its beautiful culture to the entire world has been an endeavour of the Railways, Vaishnaw said. Two more vistadome train services were flagged off in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, aimed at boosting trade and tourism through rail connectivity and promoting the cultural heritage of the northeast. Vistadome coaches are equipped with glass windows and roofs for a better view of scenic landscapes, as well as observation lounges. The new train services between Guwahati-Naharlagun and Naharlagun Tinsukia were flagged off by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Guwahati Railway Station, and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu at Naharlagun Railway Station in that state. Scenic trips to Dooars and Haflong to enthral travelers from Saturday Two long-awaited tourist trains with vistadome coaches will start their journey from Saturday. One will be through the lush green forests and tea gardens of Dooars in north Bengal and another one to scenic destination of Haflong in Assam. Both trains will be run by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). The train between New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and Alipurduar Junction through Dooars has already become an attraction among tourists as well as curious locals with all seats booked for this weekend, railway officials said on Thursday.
