The wild buffalo extant population at Chhattisgarh has been dwindling down to critical levels and to stem this, Wildlife Trust of India has been working since the last 14 years with the Chhattisgarh Forest Department and the Chhattisgarh State Government at various levels to reverse the population decline of this majestic state animal of Chhattisgarh. Sixteen years after pioneering a deep dive into whale shark conservation, Wildlife Trust of India and their partner Tata Chemicals Limited have much to celebrate with the Gujarat Forest Department and the fishing community along the coast of this maritime state. Whale shark, the world’s largest fish is endangered and the first species of fish to enjoy protection at par to that of the tigers, lions and elephants in India. The Thirunelli – Kudrakote Elephant corridor connects the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka with the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala and is vital to the habitat connectivity and survival of about 6500 Asian elephants. This long-term project of WTI commenced with the Kerala Forest Department in 2005 to secure a corridor area that housed five villages covering about 37.3 acres.
