Travel bubble with Kuwait hits a flight ban roadblock

Kuwait has suspended commercial flights from 31 countries including India on the advice of health authorities, just as the Gulf state re-opened its airport to such operations. While other flights will resume, countries on the barred list include Iran, China, Brazil, Lebanon, Spain, Singapore, Egypt and Sri Lanka, besides India, Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation said in a statement. World On a Plate goes digital this year

The sixth-edition of gourmet food festival 'World On a Plate' (WOAP) will go digital this year and support the cause of hunger by bringing food on the plate of those hit worse by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, said the organisers. The five-day campaign for charity, starting August 5, has partnered with 35 restaurants across the country for the event. These restaurants, beside putting out their signature dishes through food platform Swiggy as part of the WOAP special collection, will also provide a minimum of 50 pre-packed nutritious meals every day for the hungry. Aviation regulator DGCA on Friday said the suspension of scheduled international flights to and from the country has been extended till August 31 amid the coronavirus pandemic. But DGCA approved repatriation flights and flights within designated ‘travel-bubbles’ will continue. The suspension of scheduled international commercial services was till July 31. In the wake of the pandemic, overseas flights were suspended in late March, while cargo flights and those approved by the DGCA have been permitted to operate. According to the latest analysis from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), 40% of all destinations worldwide have now eased the restrictions they placed on international tourism in response to COVID-19. Just a few days after Emirates airlines announced a COVID-19 cover for its passengers, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has unveiled its Insurance Guidelines to rebuild global consumer confidence to help encourage the return of travelling. The guidelines are designed to drive the return of safe, healthy and responsible travel and ensure the insurance sector is fit for purpose to operate for travellers in the ‘new normal’ of the COVID-19 world. Global Air Travel not to recover until 2024

Global passenger traffic is not going to return to pre-COVID-19 levels until 2024. And this is going to happen a year later than was projected previously. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released an updated global passenger forecast showing that the recovery in traffic has been slower than had been expected. As per the forecast, the recovery in short haul travel is still expected to happen faster than for long haul travel. Recovery to pre-COVID-19 levels, however, will also slide by a year from 2022 to 2023. For 2020, global passenger numbers (enplanements) are expected to decline by 55% compared to 2019.
