Dubai sets record for world’s largest fountain

With multicoloured lights and jets of water blasting into the night sky, the United Arab Emirate’s newest attraction set a world record on Thursday as the largest fountain ever.

Located at The Pointe in Dubai’s waterfront Palm Jumeirah area, the glitzy Palm Fountain was unveiled in a launch that was live-streamed around the world.

Measuring at a whopping 7,327 m², the fountain spans over 14,000 square feet (1,300 square meters) of sea water through two giant floating platforms, according to Gail Sangster, asset director at Nakheel Malls, the developers behind the fountain. She said it features 128 super shooters reaching up to 105 metres (344 feet) in height.

The Palm Fountain was crowned the Guinness World Record holder for the world’s largest fountain, stealing the title from the Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain in South Korea.

The Palm Fountain launch, during which strict health and safety protocols were observed, included an array of live entertainment including a magical firework display. Two of the Middle East’s much loved and award-winning Disney songs – Let It Go from Frozen and A Whole New World from Aladdin – were also played for the momentous occasion, and are part of the fountain’s regular programming.

Adorned with over 3,000 LED lights, Dubai’s only multicoloured fountain, designed with colour and brightness controls, will be open to the public all year round. The Palm Fountain will present multiple shows that see its water jets sway and dance to various popular songs including local Khaleeji, international and classical music.

The fountain is open to the public year-round from sunset to midnight, delighting visitors with over 20 bespoke shows with five different variations swaying to an array of popular songs including Khaleeji, pop, classic and international. Shows last for three minutes and are performed every 30 minutes. To commemorate its launch, The Pointe has also unveiled an Instagram-able water swing open daily from 1 pm to 10 pm until 29 October.

It will show three-minute dancing water displays set to music, running every 30 minutes. Thus Dubai now has two great fountain shows.

Dubai already had an amazing fountain show. That too was claimed to be one of the most amazing man-made visual spectacles on this planet and the most fantastic fountain show in the world. This one was a dancing fountain at Dubai in the Burj Lake, spread in 30 acres right in front of Burj Khalifa- world’s highest building, what forms a stunning backdrop. Spread over 900 feet this fountain shoots water through jets up to 500 feet in air, as high as a 45 storey building. It was said to be the world’s tallest performing fountain.

That was already a must-see for all travelers to Dubai, but now the new fountain will perhaps steal the thunder out of the original Dubai Fountain show.
