Manali-Sarchu road reopened

The 210-km Manali-Sarchu road was re-opened by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Saturday, the defence ministry said. It said the opening of the road will provide connectivity to Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh and it further leads to Leh in Ladakh. Sarchu is of great importance mainly due to its location on the Leh-Manali highway. The road remains closed for over 160-180 days in a year during the winters. Sarchu is located on the boundary between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. It is situated between Baralacha La to the south and Lachulung La to the north, at an altitude of 4,290 m (14,070 ft). Industry welcomes new recommendation on travel into the EU

Travel and tourism industry has welcomed the adoption of an EU Council recommendation for external travellers coming into the EU and called for further action to help re-start air connectivity. New recommendations effectively ease the travel requirements for travellers coming to EU from rest of the world. While the recommendation is an undoubted step forward, the industry has called for EU States to move further, towards an unconditional acceptance of all WHO-approved vaccines, and also replacing PCR with rapid antigen testing options. Quarantine not mandatory for international travellers to India from Feb 14

‘At Risk’ list of countries scrapped in the new health ministry guidelines Ministry of Health, Government of India on Thursday scrapped the mandatory seven-day home quarantine for international travellers coming to India. The new guidelines, which come into effect from February 14, require passengers to self-monitor their health for 14 days after arrival and isolate in case they develop symptoms of Covid-19. All passengers will undergo thermal screening on arrival and be isolated at a medical facility if found symptomatic. If they test positive, their contacts will be identified as per protocol. Syed Wasim Shah, creator of the igloo, claimed it was the world's largest cafe of its kind and can seat 40 guests An igloo café, which came up at the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time last year has grown bigger this year. Café has become a centre of attraction for tourists coming to this snow paradise. Café serves hot food and drink on tables made of ice and snow. Battered tourism sector gets Rs 2400 crore; more could have been done, says industry From the budgetary allocation for major tourism infrastructure schemes, Rs 1181.30 crore is earmarked for the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, and Rs 235 crore for the PRASHAD Scheme. In the baseline forecast, passenger volume is expected to recover and surpass 2019 levels by the end of 2023.
